My mind is full of questions such as what is the meaning of life, are we alone in the universe, and can you store golf clubs in the glove-box of a family hatchback? My instinct on the third dilemma is 'probably not' and, according to a recent opinion poll, this is the position of the majority of British motorists. However, perhaps we should think again.
My friend Michael also subscribed to this conventional view, so he stored his beloved clubs in the boot of his vehicle. This long established approach worked well until his car was broken into and his clubs vanished into obscurity. Michael immediately retreated to the sanctuary of the nineteenth hole and contacted his insurance company. He was then informed his clubs were 'uninsured' as they were not stored in the vehicle's glove-box.
This surprising response annoyed my usually mild mannered friend and he began a lengthy battle to recover his losses. Michael eventually referred the case to the Financial Ombudsman Service who ruled in his favour. So, let's learn from my mate's experience. If you want to be sure your favourite nine-iron is insured against theft, snap it in half and shove it in the glove-box.
