THE Moors Valley Summer Steam Gala attracted about 2,000 people to see a host of trains and automobiles last weekend.
Kingsmere station was packed with families on Saturday and Sunday, who came to see vintage cars, fire engines and |miniature and full-size coal-fired traction engines.
A model railway exhibition and frequent trains pulled by a selection of up to 12 different railway engines pulled in the crowds and fairground organ music fascinated the younger children. The railway’s general manager, Jim Haylock, said: “I was pleased with the numbers of the public who turned up over the two days, despite the attractions of football, Grand Prix and tennis elsewhere.”
On Saturday evening, the engines’ owners gathered for a |barbecue and, on Sunday morning, a grand parade of all the steam engines saw first-time visitors from Easleigh Lakeside steam railway scoop the best presented locomotive award.
