PAST, present and future members of Salisbury’s Armed Forces are set to be honoured at a special event in the city next weekend.

Armed Forces Day will be in the Market Place and Guildhall Square on June 27, kicking off at 9.30am with historic military vehicles driving around the city.

The free event, funded by Salisbury City Council and the Ministry of Defence, is promising to be a great day out for all the family.

Highlights include shows by singer Rosemary Squires, the Army Air Corps Band, two local schools, Salisbury Community Choir, the Fijian Choir from 4th Battalion the Rifles, and other local performers.

Craft and food stalls in the Market Place will open at 10am, and a parade of military personnel, veterans and cadets will begin a march around the city at 10.30am.

Fans of military aircraft are also into for a treat when a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flies over in the afternoon.

Chairman of the Armed Forces committee Ian McGill said: “A huge amount of work has gone into this event in order to provide a day that strengthens the bonds between Salisbury and our Armed Forces and to honour all servicemen and women, past, present and future.

“I hope as many people as possible turn up and thoroughly enjoy the day.”

A special souvenir brochure has been issued, sponsored by QinetiQ, which is now available from Salisbury Tourist Information Centre in Fish Row.
