STAFF and pupils at Woodford Valley Primary School are over the moon after the hard work of their headteacher was recognised at this year’s teaching awards.
Rebecca Carson, 46, who has been headteacher at the school for four years, received a distinction in the Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School category, sponsored by the National College Award.
She attended the south west award ceremony in Bath on Tuesday to celebrate her achievement.
“I just really enjoyed the day,” said Mrs Carson, who has been at the school for 17 years.
“It is so special to know that colleagues you hold highly in regard and that you think are fantastic have nominated you, making you feel so special. That is the best feeling.”
Mrs Carson found out she was nominated in December, and was visited by regional judges at the school last month.
For her, the best part of the job is working with the children. “It is such a privilege to be part of young people’s lives and to know that you have that tiny little part to play in making a difference for them,” she said.
