Bemerton Players are gearing up for their latest production - Don’t Get Your Vicars in a Twist.
The fast-moving farce, written by Ann Gawthorne and Lesley Bown, tells the story of George, a senior church warden who has let the empty vicarage to a travelling theatre company for a murder mystery weekend to pay for his daughter’s extravagant wedding.
Unfortunately, Bishop Herbert, determined to have the first parish with a female vicar, appoints the Rev Caroline Timberlake before the event can take place.
Mistaken identity, other forms of misunderstanding, cross-dressing, drunkeness and general chaos ensue. This play won the Derek Lomas Playwriting competition in 2005.
There are two performances, both at 7.30pm, on June 25 and 26 at St Michael’s Community Centre, Bemerton Heath. Tickets are £7 each, concessions £5, and will include a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. They can be bought on the door or can be reserved by ringing 01722 414160.
