IT is called Little Paradise. At the moment it’s more of a Paradise Lost.
However, the area that’s home to the prefabricated toilets for visitors to Salisbury Cathedral will be transformed within a few years under a scheme submitted to Wiltshire Council planners.
The cathedral authorities are seeking permission to move the facilities temporarily into an area next to the Works Department.
Little Paradise will then be excavated by archaeologists to establish the implications for the design of a new permanent building, which will also accommodate boilers and storage for the café and shop and will be “more sympathetic to the setting of the cathedral”. It is hoped to have the new facilities completed by the end of 2014.
