THE chairman of a homeless charity based in Salisbury has been given an award for his commitment to the community.
Rev John Proctor, from Alabaré Christian Care and Support, was presented with the St Adhelm’s Cross by the Bishop of Salisbury.
On presenting him with his award, during a Cathedral Choral Evensong at the end of May, the Rt Rev David Stancliffe said Alabaré had provided a home and sense of belonging all across Salisbury and the south west.
Rev Proctor said: “I was both surprised and immensely proud to have received this award. I receive it on behalf of all at Alabaré, both the community and the care centres, without whom this work would not have been possible.
“I thank God for the manner in which he has blessed our work and I am thankful for the many people we have been privileged to support over the years.”
The St Adhelm’s Cross, which is a silver engraved lapel cross, was created by the bishop in 2005. The award recognises the distinctive contributions being made in the community.
