SEVEN south Wiltshire people have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Bryn and Emma Parry from Downton, who founded the national charity Help for Heroes, were awarded the OBE for voluntary service to the armed forces.
The charity recently broke the £50million barrier after an astonishingly successful campaign that has attracted nationwide support.
Mr and Mrs Parry formed the charity after a visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007.
The couple met some brave young people who had been badly wounded while serving their country and they wanted to do something to help. The charity has since grown from a few people working in a spare room to a huge concern funding a host of projects aimed at helping wounded ex-service personnel.
At Headley Court military hospital the charity has paid for an £8million rehabilitation centre, and many other projects have been funded by the charity, including personnel recovery centres.
An MBE has been awarded to three Ministry of Defence staff – Andrew Richard Bennett, TD. Grade C1 from Salisbury, Maj John Douglas Sneesby from Salisbury. Grade C2 and Mrs Yvette Marguerite Therese Dutton, both of Salisbury.
Mrs Marie Nunn from Westbury and Mrs Mary Patricia Paisey from Salisbury receive the MBE for services to the community in Wiltshire.
