A CHIROPRACTOR from Salisbury trekked up Ben Nevis to help a 13-year-old boy with diabetes raise money for charity.
Dr Pauline Jones, of The Complete Health Chiropractic Clinic, joined Liam Spear and his family for the fundraising event at the end of May.
Liam, who lives near Warminster, was diagnosed with type one diabetes when he was eight and has been receiving treatment at Salisbury District Hospital ever since.
He thought up the idea to trek up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon over a three-day challenge to raise money for Diabetes UK, and his father Kevin, 44, gave his full support.
They started with Ben Nevis on May 29, achieving the summit in about seven hours, then did Scafell Pike the following day in five hours before achieving Snowdon in four hours on the third day.
“It went superbly well,” said Mr Spear. “We had a fab time but it was very hard.”
Dr Jones and Liam’s one-year-old brother Ben both accompanied Liam, Mr Spear and two family friends up Ben Nevis, with Ben in a papoose on Mr Spear’s back.
“He slept all the way up and talked to people all the way down,” said Mr Spear. “He was as good as gold.”
Liam is hoping to raise £1,000 through the challenge, and has so far raised nearly £900 from his fundraising page alone, which does not include money raised through his school.
