A FARM in Shrewton will be opening its gates this weekend between 10.30am and 4pm for Open Farm Sunday.
Cherry Lodge Farm on Parsonage Down National Nature Reserve will be giving people the chance to meet the oldest registered herd of English Longhorn cattle in the country and get up close to rare breed Shropshire ewes and lambs.
Natural England is laying on a number of activities, including arts and crafts and the chance to build a bird box. There will be tractor and trailer rides around the flower rich ancient chalk downland and farmland.
Farm manager Roger Marris and senior reserves manager at Natural England Stuart Hales will be on hand to answer questions on how our food is produced and the wildlife that thrives on chalk downland. Local wildlife charities including Wessex Archaeology, Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital, The Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Avon Valley Ferrets, The Richmond Fellowship and RSPB will be represented.
The event is free and there is no need to book. Light refreshments are available but you can bring a picnic too.
