A POPULAR youth club is under threat – unless volunteers step forward to save it.
The Avonway Youth Club was successfully re-launched last autumn and now has 50 members, with 25 to 30 attending each week to participate in many different activities from games and sports, cookery and crafts to bowling and archery.
The members have named it the GR8 Youth Club, and they are looking forward to enjoying improved facilities in the Avonway Annexe in the autumn.
But now the future of the club is under threat. A single family relocating away from Fordingbridge means the loss of three volunteers at a stroke.
New volunteers are urgently needed as, without them, the club may have to scale down its activity or even close. There is a core of helpers who turn out every week, but they need more over-18s willing to spend a few hours a month to oversee the youngsters.
Anyone who can spare some time to support the youth club is urged to go and meet Ruth Quantick and Mark Sigston and see the club in action on a Wednesday between 7pm and 9pm at the Avonway Community Centre in Fordingbridge.
Alternatively leave your contact details with the Avonway office on 01425 652 706 or at Avonway@btconnect.com and they’ll be passed on to Ruth and Mark.
- ANOTHER Fordingbridge youth group – the 1st Fordingbridge Scouts - celebrated their 100th birthday on Saturday, with a barbecue and gathering.
The troop will be raising money to have new scarves designed and new badges to recognise the troop.
