FAMILIES flocked to Holders Road sports field in Amesbury on Saturday to enjoy all the fun of the town’s carnival.

The event kicked off at 11am at Amesbury Sports Centre where the floats assembled before setting off on a route through the town centre, arriving at Holders Road at midday.

The procession was led by Carnival Queen Lauren Brown, followed by Princesses Lily Money, Thea Wright, Grace Conway and Megan Hare.

Pupils from Amesbury Primary School joined the procession, alongside members of Crazy Cartwheels gymnastics group dressed as clowns, and the 1st Amesbury Girls Brigade, whose theme was Mamma Mia.

Other entrants were 1st Boscombe Down Girl Guides, who chose a World Cup theme, the Stonehenge School, 2nd Amesbury Brownies, 1011 Squadron of the Amesbury Cadets, the 1st Amesbury Scouts, the Sapphire Twirlstars majorette group and Ringwood Pipe Band.

At Holders Road sports field, there was an array of arena displays on throughout the afternoon, including the Solent Eagles motorbike display team, falconry demonstrations, a horse display, sheep dog demonstration and a fun dog show.

There was also a fairground and stalls with a tombola, a raffle, face painting, lucky dips, cuddly toys and tarot card reading, as well as stands selling refreshments, ice creams and sweets.

Funds raised by the carnival will be split between local charities.
