OFFICERS from Tidworth neighbourhood policing team paid a visit to the children’s ward at Salisbury District Hospital yesterday to spread some Christmas cheer and hand out presents.

The presents were donated by young people who attended the Bluez ‘n’ Zuz Christmas ball at the beginning of the month, as well as some from Sarsen Housing Association.

PCSO Maria Downam, who organises the monthly event, said everyone had a fantastic time and the children were very generous with their gifts.

“When we went to the hospital to deliver the presents, the children there were very excited that Christmas had come a couple of days early and they were allowed to open the gifts,” she said.

“The parents of children on the ward, maternity ward and neonatal unit were very happy to see us and thanked us for the gifts and for thinking of them.”

Matthew Kershaw, chief executive at the hospital said: “We are very grateful to the Tidworth Bluez 'n' Zuz and all those who donated gifts to children at Salisbury District Hospital.

“I know this makes a real difference to the children during the festive period and I'm sure they and their families will also want to thank everyone involved for their generosity.”
