Road safety campaigners are targeting their message at military personnel at Tidworth army camp.
Safe Drive Stay Alive, a road safety partnership led by the Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, has taken its roadshow to the Tidworth camp for the second time in two years as part of an attempt to reduce the number of road accidents involving the military.
More than 1000 soldiers have now seen dramatic video footage which has been designed to highlight the personal nature of the tragedy and suffering caused by road traffic collisions.
Ian Hopkins, road safety manager at Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service said: “We obviously have a large number of military personnel living and working within Wiltshire and statistics show that they are a high risk group. Why would local roads seem dangerous when you’ve just returned from a war zone? We need them to recognise that the risks are real and to think whenever they are driving or out with friends.”
