ACTOR Anthony Head cut a yellow ribbon to open the Dogs Trust charity shop in Salisbury on Saturday.
The star, who plays Uther Pendragon in the BBC series Merlin, and his partner, This Morning animal behaviour expert Sarah Fisher, also cut a celebratory cake, to applause from well-wishers crowded into the Crane Street shop.
The couple, who have five dogs, are staunch supporters of the charity. They quickly made friends with Border collie Glen, who was rehomed by the trust with Journal reporter Annie Riddle two years ago and who was eagerly sampling all the doggie toys in stock.
The charity’s Leslie Carley said: “We’re so excited about the new shop, which is of course dog-friendly. It will sell quality new and as new items, raising vital funds that will allow us to continue to care for thousands of dogs every year.
“It will also raise awareness of the local rehoming centre in Newton Tony, which cares for about 70 dogs at any one time. Any one wishing to donate items or volunteer should pop along to the shop.”
