A JAPANESE delegation visited Salisbury on Thursday to visit the Trussell Trust’s foodbank and see how it works.
The group from the Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries heard about the foodbank network and came to the UK especially to visit it.
Foodbank network manager Jeremy Ravn said: “It’s amazing that the Trussell Trust foodbank, which started in a garden shed in Salisbury in 2000, has now grown to over 55 UK foodbanks and is having an international influence as far afield as Japan.
“The great thing about foodbanks is that they are so simple and effective. We see so many lives changed by them and we hope that the Japanese delegation will be inspired by what they see so that people in crisis in Japan can receive emergency food too.”
The charity, which works with marginalised people in the UK and Bulgaria, has also received inquiries about the foodbank network from countries as far away as Australia and South Africa.
