BISHOP Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury has run its first trip to China.

Fifteen boys and two teachers visited the city of Nanjing, in the province of Jiangsu, for eight days at the end of October.

The boys, aged from 13 to 18, are all learning Chinese. They were hosted by the prestigious Nanjing No.1 Middle School, and stayed in its international education centre.

As well as sightseeing, they took part in a range of Chinese cultural workshops including Kung-fu, Chinese painting and calligraphy, music and Beijing Opera face masks. They also spent a day with a Chinese family. Assistant headteacher Claire Makin, who organised the visit, said: “We were warmly welcomed, and had an absolutely fabulous time.

“The school has many similarities with BWS in terms of its academic excellence, its international links and its strong musical and sporting traditions. We look forward to returning in the future.”
