I was horrified to read about a recent survey that had taken place in London targeting young people, to have their views on Christmas and if they felt it needed re-branding to become a Winter Festival.
It seems to me that if anything has been around a while someone has to try and rebrand it, or give it a make over or just generally mess with it, well hands off!!
Firstly who asked for such a survey, better still who was paying for it, as this seems to me nothing more than a money making exercise, Christmas is already very commercial but at least we still have carols, nativity plays, children still hang their stockings up, and there is a feeling of goodwill, most of us also think of the story of Jesus and unite with our own families at this time of year.
The 25th of December is steeped in history, how could they even think to try and change what is by right a holy day, even in the hardest credit crunch people will come together on this date it is part of our core stability and somehow Winter Festival just does not sound the same.
