THE sound of colourful tank engines puffing and whistling their way around Moors Valley Country Park will fill the air on Sunday.
Six or more engines, all built at the Moors Valley Railway locomotive works, will be pulling passenger trains through stations, cuttings and tunnels along the mile-long circuit of fully signalled track.
Painted green, red, yellow, black or blue trimmed with shining brass work, each engine has its own name but there is not a Thomas among them.
“We don’t do Thomas,” says Jim Haylock, the railway’s general manager.
“Our engines have names and characters of their own. Children are fascinated.
The tank engine event is the last of this year’s special events. Next month the traditional Santa Christmas trains run on December 6 and 13.
