MATT Tubbs’ hat-trick propelled Salisbury City to a First Round tie at Accrington Stanley as they inflicted Farnborough’s first defeat of the season on Tuesday.
Tubbs struck the first blow of an entertaining game, curling a superb 25-yard free kick into the top corner after eight minutes.
Seven minutes later the Zamaretto Southern Premier League leaders were level, when Dean McDonald’s cross was knocked down by Bradley Bubb and Nic Ciardini finished easily.
Farnborough were ahead on 21 minutes, Daryl McMahon swinging in a teasing cross from the left that Luke Ruddick could only turn into his own net under pressure from Jack King.
Tubbs should have equalised soon afterwards with a free header over the bar from Chris Flood’s cross, and Flood then unleashed a 25-yarder just over the bar but Farnborough held on until the break.
Within 30 seconds of the re-start, Richard Barnard had to make a brilliant reflex save to stop a King own goal.
James Smith was penalised for climbing all over Danny Webb in the box a minute later, and Tubbs drove home the penalty.
The striker had his treble on 55 minutes, when Barnard and skipper Steve Robinson left the ball to each other and Tubbs reacted quickly to tap into an empty net.
King had a great chance when Bubb knocked down a McMahon cross in the 63rd minute but he blazed over and was made to rue that miss two minutes later.
Flood cut in from the left and arrowed a shot into the bottom right corner to make it 4-2.
Robbie Sinclair aimed a powerful header at goal but Barnard saved well, and substitute Kezie Ibe had two good chances in the last ten minutes.
First he lobbed just wide with James Bittner stranded, and then he went through one-on-one but jabbed wide.
