Recruitment opportunities with key organisations in the Salisbury and South Wiltshire region will feature at the very first Job Seekers event at the Guildhall, Salisbury, on November 5.

The recruitment and careers showcase is being staged by the Salisbury Journal together with Wiltshire College and promises to bring a fresh look at matching employers with prospective employees.

Among the industries and organisations represented are defence, health, education, finance and retail.

Bill Browne, editor and publisher at Salisbury Newspapers, said: “We want this to be a one-stop shop where people can view jobs that are currently available as well as learn about the prospects for the future.

“We are particularly pleased to see some of the major local industries represented. Whether you are looking for your first job or hoping to make a switch from your current role, there is something on offer for you.”

Visitors will learn how to sign up for the Journal’s CV database and the college is arranging presentational skills seminars. These begin at 1.30pm, 3.30pm and 5.30pm and anyone wishing to attend can register in advance by emailing Jobseekers@salisburyjournal.co.uk.

Bev Flanagan, vice prinicipal of Wiltshire College, Salisbury, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Journal in bringing the first Job Seekers event to Salisbury. In the current climate it is important that people are supported to enable them to be in the best position to get the job that they want.

“The college offers a whole range of training, advice and guidance packages that are designed to give unemployed and those at risk of redundancy the tools to get them back into work. Equally, there are some people that just want to change their job so this event is a must for them too. “Working with employers in all sectors, the college is well placed to support an event like this. In our experience, businesses want employees with relevant skills and those seeking work need to gain those skills. The college offers a range of vocational courses to help address this need and is even introducing Weekend College in January to make training even more accessible.”

The event opens at 11am and will close its doors at 7pm.
