SCOUTS from across Salisbury gathered at Wiltshire’s Great Yews to compete in a number of challenges for a coveted district trophy.
The 74 scouts split up into 11 patrols and hiked out to their starting points on Whitsbury Down for the six-hour competition to win the Grose Trophy.
The inter-troop competition, which was founded by a Lt Col Grose in 1930, involves the patrols completing a number of challenges set out and run by leaders from the different troops.
Challenges included putting a tent up blindfolded, cutting wood without touching the bow saw and creating a cup of tea after forming a wood fire.
Mark Warner, assistant district commissioner for Scouts, said: “The competition promotes good team work and helps them learn to listen to each other when they take on a challenge together.”
A patrol of four senior scouts from 8th Salisbury troop lifted the trophy after it was announced they had won with a total of 97 points, narrowly beating a team from Alderbury.
