A SALISBURY hospital worker took the plunge and had her head shaved by Christopher Biggins on Wednesday to raise money for the Stars Appeal.
Karina Styles, secretary in the Oncology Department at Salisbury District Hospital, has worked at the hospital for eight years and decided to do the head shave to entertain patients undergoing treatment.
She initially aimed to raise about £1,000 for the Pembroke Unit, but has already got more than £1,300 and is very pleased with the result.
“I am too scared to go jumping out of planes and too lazy to trek up huge mountains” she said. “The response has been tremendous, people have been really supportive and with Christopher getting involved, I am up to about £1300 already.”
Locally-born star Christopher Biggins was pleased to take charge of the clippers and provide her with a smooth new look, with the help of hairdressers Millie and Jo of Pelo Hairdressing.
“It’s the first time I’ve done this,” he said. “She is such a brave girl and the amount raised was fantastic, very good indeed.”
In addition to funds Karina has raised, John Bath and Jane Dry of Australian 8 Ball Company offered a free electronic quiz and games station for the patients, and Mr Biggins also added a personal donation to the cause.
