ABOUT 3,000 people came to the sixth annual cider pressing weekend at Burley to see how cider was made in days gone by.

Visitors could sample cider made using a variety of vintage presses ranging from a 'workman' steam driven mobile press to the simplicity of a hand operated twin screw press using straw as a filter.

On Saturday visitors were able to vote for their favourite cider, which was won by Coats Cider.

Other attractions included traditional country craft demonstrations such as hurdle making, and wood turning, as well as the chance to meet a blacksmith, wheelwright and beekeeper.

Steam engines and tractor displays were enjoyed by many and a host of fairground attractions kept the children amused.

There was also an opportunity to buy a calendar featuring the women who work at New Forest Cider carrying out a variety of tasks on the farm.

The proceeds from the weekend will go to Julia’s House Children’s Hospice in Dorset and the Burley Sports Club Pavilion Fund.
