THERE will be extra patrols by Wiltshire Police on the streets this Halloween in a bid to prevent anti-social behaviour.
The force is appealing to parents and carers across the county to be aware of their children’s behaviour and activities during Halloween, as people can be distressed and intimidated by unexpected callers.
Anyone trick or treating should be with an adult, stay in well-lit areas, stay together, be careful when crossing the road, avoid talking to strangers, remain on the doorstep of houses and only approach properties if you know who lives there.
For anyone not wishing to be disturbed by people trick or treating, the police have produced a poster stating ‘Sorry, no trick or treat here please’, which can be displayed on the front door or in the front window of a property.
This can be downloaded at www.wiltshire.police.uk or collected from Salisbury Police Station. Anyone feeling threatened or vulnerable can call 0845 4087000.
Insp Nick Bancroft said: “Halloween should be a fun time for all, but there are some people who become distressed and frightened when unknown callers, dressed in masks and costumes, knock at their doors.
“I am asking that everyone heeds the advice that we have given, and by behaving responsibly and within the law, everyone can enjoy a relaxed, enjoyable evening.”
