VULNERABLE young people in Amesbury can look forward to exciting activities during February half term and the Easter holidays next year, thanks to a grant from the town’s area board.
A £2,433 contribution to the SPLASH charity was approved by Wiltshire councillors last night, meaning it can now fund two more holiday activities in 2010.
The charity supports young people aged nine to 16 and offers them fun holiday activities, with the aim of keeping them safe and healthy, helping them to enjoy and achieve things while make a positive contribution to the community.
A project held in July at the Bowman Centre was very successful and focused on cooking, with a trip to Wagamamas and a behind-the-scenes visit to an Indian restaurant.
Manager Jayne Moverley said the money would make a huge difference.
“It’s quite hard to put it into words,” she said. “Hopefully the area board will help pull the community together.
“It is us, the housing association, the Army and the area board and if we can all work together, we can make it happen.”
She urged anyone wishing to get involved the visit the website at www.splash-wiltshire.org.uk.
Other grants approved at the meeting included £5,000 to fund development work at allotment sites in Steeple Langford and Hanging Langford and £1,225 to clear scrub land at Winterbourne Gunner allotment site and erect fencing.
A £400 grant was also approved to provide disabled access at the recreation ground in Durrington.
