POLICE in the New Forest have made several arrests as part of a campaign to reduce vehicle crime.

Operation Kick began on September 29 and aims to reduce the number of vehicle crime offences committed and bring offenders to justice.

So far seven arrests have been made in connection with 12 offences in the New Forest.

PC Chris Orr of Hampshire Police said: “We continue to encourage motorists to take crime prevention precautions but this campaign also focuses on a one team approach to obtain as much evidence as possible and bring offenders to justice.

“We are encouraging motorists to report any suspicious activity to us. These offences are occurring in all locations, from remote car parks to residential areas, both during the day and overnight. On some occasions offenders lie in wait and strike within minutes of the motorist leaving their vehicle.

“We are gathering information and intelligence, not only relating to current reports but also previous unsolved offences.”

The police advise motorists to remove all property from their vehicle, always secure vehicles left unattended and not to hide items in the boot or under the seat as thieves may be watching.

Anyone with information relating to vehicle crime can contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
