Comedian and Author Marc Burrows and his show 'The Magic of Terry Pratchett'  is coming to the Salisbury Arts Centre

Marc is especially excited to bring the show to Salisbury because Pratchett lived and worked here throughout the 1990s, writing many of his stories whilst settled here.

In the past 12 months, The Magic of Terry Pratchett show has sold over 10,000 tickets across the UK and so Salisbury was chosen as the final date of 2024 – a fitting end to the year and to this leg of the tour.

In 2017 Salisbury Museum even held an exhibition recreating Pratchett’s office, even using his actual desk in their exhibition amongst displays of his personal possessions donated by his family.

Marc Burrows is the author of the first-ever biography of Sir Terry, The Magic of Terry Pratchett, which explores the life, influences, and impact of someone who is arguably one of the greatest storytellers of all time. The book received strong critical acclaim, won a Locus Award and was wholly embraced by fans.

Marc then adapted his book into a one-man stand-up show, which was endorsed by the late author’s estate and he took the show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023 and 2024.

From the national treasure’s days as a school librarian to his time as a trainee journalist, to his untimely death in 2015.

Marc Burrows said, "The main thing I want people to know about this show is that you don't have to know anything about Sir Terry Pratchett to see it. There is something for everyone."

The show was such a success at the festival that it was named one of the best-reviewed shows of the fringe by the British Comedy Guide.

Burrows said, "The best one-man shows are always about someone or something in particular. That's why my show did so well."

Following the success of the show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Burrows said, "The show ran every single day for 3 weeks and there were over a hundred people every day.

"Because there was so much demand for my show, I thought I had to take it on tour."

However, Burrows will continue taking 'The Magic of Terry Pratchett' on the road in 2025 with more dates to be announced as well as a stint in Australia.

Reflecting on his time researching and writing about Pratchett, Burrows said, "I never had the opportunity to meet him [Terry Pratchett], I nearly did though, I could have had a night out with Terry Pratchett but I wasn't well, I was so disappointed."

Marc Burrows was so happy with the performance of his original biography of Sir Terry Pratchett, that he has written a biography of Nirvana to be released in the new year.
