THE Walnut Inn in Mere has come under new ownership.
Mark and Sam Cassidy have stepped away from the pub to enjoy their “semi-retirement”, paving the way for twin brothers Simon and Will Friend-James to take over.
A farewell event took place at a packed pub on Friday, November 22, at which Simon served his first customers and poured his first pints.
Mark and Sam said: “We are delighted that the pub will continue to be a family-owned business with a focus on maintaining the traditional values of hospitality at its core.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who has supported us over the years on our journey, especially through the tough times we all endured with Covid etc.
“Your encouragement, loyalty and generosity has been most appreciated over the years, and we trust that you'll welcome and support the new owners in equal measure.
“Along with the business, we are proud to hand over the very best team of people who will continue to look after all guests as they always have, and help the new hosts settle in to life at this wonderful place.
“We've thoroughly enjoyed our time here in this marvellous place, and now hopefully will have a bit more time to enjoy all that Mere and the surrounding area has to offer.”
Bookings, Christmas party deposits and gift vouchers will not be affected by the change.
Louise Padfield, who has worked at the pub for more than six years, said: “Thank you Mark and Sam for all of your support and love.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to of worked for you and to be part of the team that you both have created.”
Natasha Cooper wrote: “Best wishes to you both and I'm so glad you're finally going to get to have a proper break!
“You've shaped a community and made an impact on so many lives.
“I'll always be grateful for the start you gave to me in my working life, and for all the baking advice you inspired me with Sam.”
Regulars Katrina and Mike Geraghty said: “Thank you so much Mark and Sam.
“We have been going to your lovely friendly pub regularly for years since we moved to Gillingham about eighteen years ago.
“We have loved coming have loved every meal.”
