PEOPLE are being urged to use the trains this weekend only if their journeys are essential.

South Western Railway (SWR) has advised passengers to avoid the railway west of Basingstoke due to Storm Bert.

This comes after the Met Office issued two yellow weather warnings for wind and rain ahead of the storm hitting the country.

Train services will be disrupted, and journeys between Salisbury and Exeter are expected to take longer this weekend.
