POLICE volunteers on horseback are being sought for the New Forest area.

Anyone who owns a horse and is a competent rider on rural terrain and has some spare time is being asked to consider serving as a police volunteer.

Two volunteers are needed to cover New Forest west, which includes the Ringwood and Fordingbridge areas.

Volunteers go out on horseback between two and 15 hours per week.

The purpose of the job is to provide high visibility patrols and engage with rural communities.

Volunteers must ensure relevant information and intelligence is shared with local policing teams and Country Watch.

All appropriate safety equipment is worn including all kit and equipment provided.

Ringwood police said: “Nominated individuals fall into the category of volunteer and the police have an extended insurance policy to cover volunteers who are assisting the police in their duty.

“Third party insurance cover would therefore be extended to all nominated individuals.

“It is advised that individuals have their own personal accident insurance cover in relation to riding horses.”

You must own a horse or have permission from owner of another horse to undertake mounted rural patrols.
