Oh dear, it seems like everyone is having a moan about Fisherton Street. I would like to add my own comments.
Like Deborah Fox of Fisherton Mill, I think that the improvements are absolutely fantastic for pedestrians and traders.
I have been enjoying my visits to Fisherton Street during the day and spending time with our local traders when there is not much traffic around as the changes have enhanced the street dynamics.
However, the major issue in terms of safety has got to be the vast number of drivers using Fisherton Street as their rat run to and from the city.
The Fisherton Gateway project was to provide a much-enhanced environment for pedestrians along Fisherton Street.
Investing in walkable communities is a reliable and evidence-based strategy to enable Fisherton Street commercial traders to thrive.
Wiltshire Council should be thanked for having created this new pedestrian gateway.
However, the thorn in the side of Fisherton Street is the continuing overuse of the street by drivers.
There is only one solution for Fisherton Street and it is that the traffic volume needs to be decreased.
Wiltshire Council, you can either sit back or you can act to reduce the volume of vehicles using Fisherton Street – for the sake of Salisbury please, please don’t continue with your mantra that car is king.
