FOUR way temporary traffic lights on Wilton Road are now gone, it has been confirmed.

Since Monday, November 11, Wilton and surrounding areas have been plagued by heavy traffic with some commuters reporting it had taken them more than an hour to get through the town due to the gridlocked roads.

The lights had been installed by SGN while they carried out gas works, originally supposed to be in place for two weeks, ending on Thursday, November 21. However, earlier this week, the gas distribution company confirmed that they would be removed by 6pm on Friday, November 15, apologising for the inconvenience they have caused drivers.

Salisbury Reds has had to divert several of its bus routes this week as a result of the delays.

In a statement to the Journal before the works began, SGN said: "We understand how disruptive work on the A36 is for road users and the local community - replacing the gas main is the only permanent solution to addressing the ongoing leaks and disruptive emergency repairs.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding."
