Wilton traffic chaos is to be resolved as the four way temporary traffic lights will be removed a week earlier than planned.

Since Monday, November 11, locals and commuters have faced chaos on the roads around Wilton due to four way temporary traffic lights that have been in place while gas works are completed.

Gas distribution company SGN has confirmed that works will be completed today (November 13) and the lights will be removed by 6pm on Friday, November 15 when road reinstatement has been completed.

The lights were originally supposed to be in place for two weeks, ending on Thursday, November 21.

In a statement, a spokesperson for SGN Bradley Barlow said: "We’re carrying out work to replace our gas mains at the Wilton Roundabout (A36), which are essential to ensure we can maintain a safe and efficient gas supply to residents, businesses, and the wider community.

"Our engineering work will be complete today and will be followed by road reinstatement. Our temporary traffic lights will be removed by 6pm on Friday 15 November.

"The temporary traffic lights will remain in place until reinstatement is complete and the road surface set and safe for vehicles to drive on. There will be limited visibility of engineers on site while the road surface is curing.

"We’re sorry for the inconvenience these works have caused and thank you for your patience and understanding."

The lights have caused some commuters to spend more than an hour in traffic to get through Wilton and surrounding areas and Salisbury Reds has had to implement diversions to several of its routes to keep services as timely as possible.
