NEW Canal and High Street will be shut overnight in late-January to allow Wiltshire Council to carry out “drainage investigation and associated works”.
The closure will start on Monday, January 20 and be in place until Friday, January 31. The order will see the road closed between 7pm and 11.59pm.
The council says access will be maintained for residents and businesses “where possible” but delays are likely due to the nature of the works.
New Canal will be closed for its entire length. High Street will be closed from the point it meets New Canal until its junction with Bridge Street.
An alternative route will be in place via Bridge Street, Fisherton Street, South Western Road, Mill Road, Cranebridge Road, Crane Street, New Street, St Johns Street, St Ann Street, Brown Street and Milford Street – a diversion of around 1.5 miles.
The closure and diversion route will be indicated by traffic signs.
For more information on the works, contact Milestone Infrastructure, the council's highways contractor, on 02033 077880.
The Journal has contacted Salisbury Reds to find out how the closure will affect passengers who use the company's New Canal bus stops.
