The construction of 18 affordable homes in Ludgershall has been given the go-ahead.

The dwellings will be constructed on Old Common Way, in the place of Bartlett House Care Home which was demolished in 2023.

Wiltshire Council proposed the development later that year, describing it as a “highly sustainable” plan that used the resources of the site “wisely”.

Ludgershall Town Council approved of the scheme and complimented the council on “such a well put together and informative planning application”.

The 18 new homes will include one four-bedroom house, five three-bedroom houses, eight two-bedroom houses and four one-bedroom flats.

According to the application, the range of affordable housing is designed to meet local need.

It also says it will provide “greater access for new residents and existing neighbours, to an open informal play space, community orchard and reflective garden”.

The plans conclude: “Not only will the scheme deliver much needed affordable housing it will deliver homes that are of a modular construction that will reduce construction waste, build time, and importantly reduce the demand for carbon generating energy sources by delivering homes in excess of the current Building Regulation requirements.

“The development offers significant other benefits through its location, design and layout.”
