EVENTS to commemorate Remembrance Sunday were held across Salisbury at the weekend.

In Old Sarum, Boscombe Down Aviation Collection volunteers and veterans were joined by Laverstock and Ford Parish Councillors Laura Jones, Lainey Barker, Estelle Williams and Patrick Schneider in a ceremony at the airfield.

Several hundred people attended an act of Remembrance Service in Mere at the war memorial and St Michael's Church. Robert Boyle was first to lay a wreath representing the Royal British Legion.

Wiltshire councillor George Jeans said: "Towards the end of a serious and respectful service, one lighter note in the service was when the organist  did not play the second verse of the national anthem as the congregation expected and was requested to do so by the Minister."
