SALISBURY paid its respects to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice yesterday at the annual Remembrance Sunday Service.
As usual, the service took place at the War Memorial in the Guildhall Square.
The ceremony was led by the Salisbury Branch of the Royal British Legion and supported by Salisbury City Council and St Thomas’s Church.
At approximately 10.30am, the parade marched from Avon Approach to the Guildhall Square.
Participants then gathered at the War Memorial at 10.50am for a small ceremony, and observed a two-minute silence at 11.00am, followed by prayers.
The parade then headed along New Canal, where Lord Lieutenant, Sarah Troughton, accompanied by the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Dr Olivia Chapple, and The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Salisbury, Cllr Sven Hocking, took the salute.
It then processed to St. Thomas’s Church for the Sunday Service at 11.40am.
On Monday 11 November 2024 there will be a small ceremony in the Guildhall Square at 11.00am to mark Armistice Day, which all are welcome to attend.
