A SIX-YEAR-OLD has been recognised by the Royal British Legion after he helped raise more than £100,000 for the Poppy Appeal.
Arthur Redfern, a year two pupil at Avondale Preparatory School in Bulford, was at Waterloo Station with his parents and other Royal British Legion volunteers on Sunday.
His parents are both in the Army: mum Simone is in the Artillery, and dad Alec is a medic.
They went to the station to speak to commuters and sell poppies to raise money for the legion, which is the UK's largest armed forces charity, ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
Amy Worley, Arthur's teacher at Avondale, said: “We’re all incredibly proud of him.
“I couldn’t believe how confident he was. They stood there all day and approached commuters and raised over £100,000.
“He was given a volunteers’ badge, which he’s very proud of. He’s such a sweet little boy.”
The Royal British Legion says it is “at the heart of a national network that supports our armed forces community”.
Its website says: “We're here through thick and thin – ensuring their unique contribution is never forgotten. We've been here since 1921 and we'll be here as long as they need us.”
