A JOURNAL camera club photographer has won in her category at the British Photography Awards.

Hang Ross, 48, travelled to London on November 4 for the final of the British Photography Awards 2024. Her photograph was shortlisted alongside 25 images in the architecture category at the event at the Royal Lancaster Hotel.

Hang said: "Most photographers are modest bunch and hence prefer being on the other-side of the camera or like myself in the middle of the New Forest in peace, preferring their work and images to do the talking.

"That said it was such a fabulous day at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London where we could meet and socialise with other photographer short listers.

"To top this, I won the Peoples Choice winner in my category. This is such an incredible award, recognising photographers for their works across 20 different genre categories of photography, with over 25 thousand images entered and judged by professional peers."

The picture she entered was taken on following a visit to Japan to see the blossom, which she titled 'Cloud and Sakura blossom carpet'.

She had visited Japan once already in March, only to discover very few trees had blossomed. After easter, she managed to take another visit to Fuji where she captured the photograph of the blossom in the sunset.

After reaching the final, she asked Salisbury to vote for her as part of the public vote which saw her win in her category.

She said: "I would like to pass on my congratulations and well done to all those that participated and were shortlisted several from our groups here in the south. The photos were amazing.

"I would also like to point out the British Photography Awards also raise money for many charities and this year helped raise over £250,000. My selected charity was “the Breast Cancer Haven”, a worthwhile cause and something my dearest friend that are sadly no longer with us would appreciate.

"And again, well done to all the other photographers and thank you to all those that supported and voted for my photo."
