A FORMER Metropolitan Police officer has appeared in court charged with multiple sex attacks on a woman and a girl under the age of 14.

David Carrick, 49, is accused of two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of coercive and controlling behaviour in relation to the woman.

Those offences are alleged to have taken place between 2014 and 2019 in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

He is also charged with five counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 in Salisbury between 1989 and 1990, when he was a teenager.

Carrick appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London via video link on Thursday (October 17) wearing a grey tracksuit.

He spoke to confirm his name and age but was not asked to give pleas.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on November 14.

After he was charged on October 7, Lisa Ramsarran, chief crown prosecutor for the CPS in Thames and Chiltern, said: “David Carrick has been charged with five counts of indecent assault, two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

“He has also been charged with one count of coercive and controlling behaviour.

“As criminal proceedings against this defendant are active, there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice his right to a fair trial.”

Detective chief inspector Iain Moor, of the force’s major crime unit, who led the investigation, said: “The charges come in the wake of an extensive and complex investigation conducted over a period of several months.”
