PLANS have been submitted to rebuild a house after a driver crashed into it.

Nobody was hurt when a silver Vauxhall Astra collided with the property at North Cottages near Bishopstone – which was empty at the time – on August 25.

Firefighters from Wilton attended the scene at 9.37pm after receiving a call about a small vehicle fire at the junction of Portfield Road and the main road into Bishopstone.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Upon arrival, the crew didn’t find a vehicle on fire but a car that had managed to crash into a house close to the junction.

“Luckily, nobody was seriously injured and the house was confirmed as empty.

“Wilton crew made the vehicle safe and remained at the scene until a building engineer was able to assess the structure and the car was removed.”

An application seeking listed building consent to make repairs to the house was submitted to Wiltshire Council on October 15.

The property itself is not listed, but it falls within the curtilage of Bishopstone Manor.

A design and access statement submitted by Michael Lyons Architecture on the applicant's behalf says: “The property has been damaged with a car travelling southbound down the road from Wilton, not stopping at the junction and crashing into the building.

“The car has now been removed from the building, leaving a large opening within the wall.

“The proposal is to rectify the damage done and to rebuild the building and elevation. The upper part of the wall and the first floor are currently being held up by Acrow props.

“The proposal is to rebuild the existing wall as the original construction.

“A double casement window is proposed in lieu of the door and window, and this will be on the centre line of the first floor window.

“Ares where brickwork is cracked and damaged will be repaired or rebuilt as required.”
