TRAFFIC lines painted by a contractor for Wiltshire Council had to be blasted away after they were botched.

The Journal was alerted to contractors hydro-blasting the recently laid-down double and single yellow lines on Church Road after a tip-off from a Laverstock resident.

Workers from subcontractor JHB UK Ltd, asked by the Journal about their work, said the lines had to be removed because of 'shadow lines' and incorrect widths.

New double yellow and single yellow lines, as well as No Loading restrictions, were put in place after years of contested consultation.

The lines were messy and the incorrect width (Image: Charles Elliman) Wiltshire Councillor Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways stated: "The yellow lines that were originally painted in Laverstock were not up to the standard that the Council expects, and as such we advised the contractor that they needed to remove the lines and undertake the works again to the required standard.

"The hydro-blasting machines that was required to remove the lines was made available at the earliest opportunity and the works have now been completed."

The councillor continued: "This was at no cost to the council, as the original work was not completed to the required standard.

“The use of subcontractors for road marking activities is standard as this is specialist work that is not directly undertaken by our main contractors.”
