According to the RSPCA, birds are very popular pets with over a million kept in homes around the UK.

African Grey Parrots are one of the most common and are, sadly, endangered in the wild with World Animal Protection asserting 21 per cent are poached each year.

The animals native to west and central Africa are seen as attractive pets due to their long lifespan (60 years on average), ability to mimic speech and intelligence.
