A warning has been issued to Hampshire drivers by National Highways over slip road closures on the M27 scheduled for October.

Motorists are being asked to plan ahead in their journeys in order to avoid long traffic delays.

Essential carriageway work is scheduled to be carried out on the M27 between junctions 5 and 8 during October.

In a statement, National Highways explained: "The main focus of work will involve the closure of junction 7 of the M27 eastbound exit for an extended period.

"This is to allow us to install new low-noise asphalt and raise the gradient of the slip road by 180mm to ensure it matches the new motorway surface."

When will the M27 closures take place in October?

The closures on the M27 will see a full closure from 9pm on Tuesday, October 15 to 6am on Saturday, October 19 on the Junction 7 eastbound exit slip road.

Meanwhile, weeknight closures (9pm to 6am) will be scheduled from Tuesday, October 15 to Friday, October 18 on the following sections:

  • M27 junction 5 eastbound entry and exit slip roads
  • M27 junction 7 eastbound entry and exit slip roads
  • M27 junction 8 eastbound exit slip road

Further weeknight closures (9pm to 6am) will occur from Saturday, October 19 to Sunday, October 27 on the following sections:

  • M27 junction 5 eastbound entry and exit slip roads
  • M27 junction 7 eastbound exit slip road
  • M27 junction 8 eastbound exit slip road

National Highways adds: "Drivers travelling on the eastbound carriageway will NOT be able to exit at junctions 5, 7 or 8 if travelling in the contraflow lane. This applies to both daytime and overnight lane closures from 15 October to 27 October 2024."
