A care home in Downton is appealing for hand crafted flowers for a resident’s 100th birthday.
Ashley Grange care home resident, Joan, will be turning 100 on October 19 and the home is hoping to fill Joan’s room with 100 hand crafted flowers – one for every year of Joan’s life – in any form, from drawings or paintings to paper, crochet or flowers made from everyday craft or recycled materials.
Home manager at Ashley Grange Alison Wetherall said: “We’re hoping lots of people get involved with our appeal for flowers; Joan has the most amazing sense of humour and brings her mischievousness each day in our home.

"She enjoys music and a good sing along and is always sporting a lovely pair of shoes and some sparkle – Ashley Grange wouldn’t be the same without her and she really deserves this surprise!
“Joan was a pilot during the Second World War and loved to cook, knit and dance. Joan will be celebrating at Ashley Grange with her family and friends – some of whom are travelling all the way from Canada for her special day. Joan says she’s looking forward to her party as long as there’s plenty of cake and chocolate!”
Flowers can be posted or dropped off at: Ashley Grange Care Home, Lode Hill, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP5 3PP.
