In defence of English Heritage which failed to mark the 90th anniversary of Sir Cecil Chubb’s death (Postbag, last week), it does remember the part he played in the history of Stonehenge.
In 2018 it held memorable events to celebrate Chubb on the more significant 100th anniversary of his generous gift to the nation and Stonehenge staff and volunteers laid a wreath on his grave.
Incidentally, despite almost 14,000 interments in Devizes Road Cemetery, finding this bit of history is easier than you may imagine: Chubb lies close to the eastern boundary wall, a short distance south of the chapel.
