Two removal men who had travelled to Bedford to help a family move to Salisbury were faced with an unexpected disaster.
Darin Healey, 56, and Ciaran MacDonagh, 25,, both removal men at Armishaws, arrived at the family’s home in Chicksands, near Bedford on September 24, to find it underwater.
The house had flooded following the spells of heavy rain in the week, with several other families also finding their homes submerged with 50 centimetres (1.5ft) of water.
Darin and Ciaran rolled up their sleeves and trousers, and helped not only their clients, but a further 10 families in Netherhampton Road who had been affected by the flooding.
Darin Healey said, “It’s what anyone would do really. Once we’d helped our clients, we couldn’t just jump in the lorry and drive away when other people were having a tough time. So we just did what we could and tried to save as much as we could from getting ruined.”

Despite having finished their shift, rather than loading up and hitting the road, the two men carried and moved precious items, furniture, toys and clothes from water hit ground floors and garages to upper storeys and neighbouring homes on higher and drier ground.
While the flood waters subside, the new-movers are now on route to Salisbury and a new, dry home.
Armishaws Removals’ general manger Pat Carter said: “We’ve helped lots of flood victims in the past, normally it’s a call from the insurers after any flood water has drained, that’s the first time any of our crews have arrived to find the house they are about to move is underwater.”
“Darin and Ciaran really are a credit to the company. We’re always proud of our crews who always go the extra mile, usually they don’t have to swim it.”
The duo have also been praised on Trustpilot by residents who received their support.

Paul Wood commented: "Big shout out to Darin & Ciaran who represented your company in such a massive way when attending a March Out in Chicksands on Mon 23rd Sep 24.
"The river on site burst its banks and these two fine gents stayed and demonstrated selfless commitment in helping all the families affected by the flood.
"Sleeves up and wading through water over knee deep they moved and assisted family after family and were a credit to not only themselves as human beings, but your brand with a clear message of “above and beyond”.
