An investigation has been launched after household waste including a mattress, wood, and boxes was dumped near a New Forest beauty spot.

Officers from New Forest District Council came across a large pile of fly-tipped waste just off the A31 last week.

The items were found near North Slufters Inclosure.

Now the authority is appealing for information as it appears the waste came from a house clearance.

A spokesperson said on social media: "Do you recognise these items?

"Our enforcement team is investigating a large fly-tip just off the A31 near North Slufters Inclosure.

"We are looking to see if anyone has paid someone to take their waste away, as it appears to be a house clearance.

"If you have any information which may help with our investigations, please contact us in confidence at customer.services@nfdc.gov.uk

"When using a private company to remove waste, check the company can legally collect waste on the Environment Agency’s register of licensed waste carriers."

Police in the area have also shared the appeal asking for help.
