There is a rare opportunity to watch the 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney on a big screen in the perfect gothic setting of Salisbury Cathedral.
When the film is being shown, on Saturday, October 5, organist Jonathan Hope will be providing a live improvised soundtrack.
The film has gained a large following over the years and is known as one of the benchmark films of the horror genre, still retaining its ability to scare, after nearly 100 years.
But what makes this screening of the film so spectacular will be the unique live organ accompaniment on the famous Willis organ from Jonathan Hope, which will fill the gothic surroundings of the Cathedral.
Jonathan is Assistant Director of Music at Gloucester Cathedral and in between his cathedral work and international solo career, he has built a reputation for creating these improvised movie accompaniments.
The evening is set to be the perfect night for any horror film enthusiast or anyone wanting to hear the impressive Cathedral organ in all its glory.
Tickets for the screening are available on www.salisburycathedral.org.uk or you can call the box office on 01722 555 120.
